Greece's Ioakeim Theodoridis won the first ever gold medal in parkour at the World Games as he topped the podium in the men's freestyle competition on Sunday 10 July in Birmingham, Alabama.

Elis Torhall, an 18-year-old from Jonkoping, Sweden, took home the silver after putting in an explosive run of his own and Jeremy Lorsignol of Belgium won the bronze medal.

Parkour is making its debut as part of the gymnastics program at the World Games, and it was fitting that the milestone moment for the discipline took place at the national historic landmark of Sloss Furnaces, one of the first industrial sites to be repurposed for public use.

The competition took on a different dynamic as it transitioned from freestyle to speed. Six women qualified for the finals, which were divided into three head-to-head heats.

Sweden's top-ranked parkour athlete Miranda Tibbling took home the gold as expected after she finished first in the same event at the World Cup in Montpellier earlier in the year.

The 18-year-old topped the podium with an impressive run of 27.14 seconds, a full two seconds ahead of the Netherlands' Noa Man, who finished in second place overall.

Japan's Izumi Hikari rounded out the podium with a time of 33.79 seconds.

The parkour competition continues and wraps up on 11 July with the men's speed event and women's freestyle.
