Working to peak at Tokyo Olympics: Angad Bajwa ahead of ISSF Shotgun World Cup
The ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Cairo will be the final dress rehearsal for skeet shooters ahead of the Tokyo Olympics
The ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Cairo, set to get underway from Wednesday, is significant for India's trap and skeet shooters.
It will be the last chance for the trap shooters to accumulate enough ranking points to make a cut for the Olympics. Meanwhile, for Tokyo-bound skeet shooters -- Angad Veer Singh Bajwa and his senior compatriot Mairaj Ahmad Khan -- it will be a dress rehearsal ahead of the showpiece event.
Bajwa, set to represent the country in his maiden Olympics, is optimistic of making the most of his first event since the Covid-19 outbreak.
"It will be the first competition after more than a year and much-needed experience before the Olympic Games. It's important because of competitive experience prior to the Olympics," Angad Bajwa to the Olympic Channel.
"It’s just the match practice which we need and will try to do my best every time".
The Chandigarh-shooter is currently training with the Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medallist Tore Brovold. And he wants to save his best for the Tokyo Olympics.
"Preparations are good but we need to peak at the (Tokyo) Olympics not prior and am working on that," the 25-year-old said.
A 12-member Indian shooting contingent will represent the country at the Shotgun World Cup. It includes six members from the trap shooting squad and as many from skeet shooting.
The skeet shooting events at the Shotgun World Cup will run from Wednesday to Saturday while the trap event will get underway from March 1.
