The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United Arab Emirates will see the top 10 cricket nations from around the globe battle for the coveted trophy from October 3 to 20.

The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will feature 10 teams competing in 23 matches across two cities - Dubai and Sharjah. The teams are split equally into two groups - A and B. The top two from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

Bangladesh qualified as the hosts before the competition was moved to the UAE. This will be the sixth time Bangladesh will participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Six teams - Australia, South Africa, India, England, West Indies and New Zealand - qualified courtesy of their performances in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last year.

Australia qualified as the defending champions. With six titles, they are the most successful women’s cricket team in the format. Alyssa Healy will captain the side following the retirement of Meg Lanning.

South Africa were the finalists from last year while England, inaugural champions in 2009, and India reached the semi-finals in 2023 to qualify for this year’s edition. Former champions West Indies and two-time finalists New Zealand qualified after finishing third in their groups.

The Indian women’s cricket team, beaten by Australia in the semi-finals last year, will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur.

Two teams - Sri Lanka and Scotland - booked their place through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in May.
