Just 12 men have won the gold medals in the men’s 200m at the last 19 editions of the World Athletics Championships.
With his four titles won between 2009-2015, Usain Bolt is the only sprinter to have won the men's 200m more than three times. Noah Lyles is the only other man to have more than two.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist is also the only runner to have broken a world record at the World Championships, back in Berlin 2009. His mark of 19.19 still stands.
Like in the 100m, Americans have dominated the event at the World Championships winning nine titles, including Calvin Smith and Michael Johnson's double.
But the men’s 200m has been somewhat unpredictable.
There has been an African winner from Namibia, Frankie Fredericks (1993), a European winner from Greece, Konstantinos Kenteris (2001), an Asian-born world champion from Turkey, Ramil Guliyev, and two champions from the Caribbean, Jamaica's Bolt and Trinidian Ato Boldon.
Here’s a look at all the 12 athletes who have topped the 200m men's podium since the first edition in 1983 in Helsinki.
