Just 12 men have won the gold medals in the men’s 100m at the last 19 editions of the World Track and Field Athletics Championships, including current champion Noah Lyles.

Americans Carl Lewis and Maurice Green, and Jamaica’s Usain Bolt each won the 100m sprint three times at the biennial event.

Eight-time Olympic champion Bolt holds the world and Championships record for the 100m from his 9.58 seconds run at the 2009 Worlds.

The 100m has mostly been an American event, with the nation’s sprinters clinching 15 gold medals with Jamaica second with six titles.

Jamaican Yohan Blake’s victory at Daegu in 2011 when he was only 21 made him the youngest ever 100m world champion, while two-time winner Justin Gatlin became the oldest medallist with his silver from Doha 2019.

Here’s a look at all the world champions since the first edition in 1983 in Helsinki.
