Jessie Diggins will take a lead of 43 seconds into the final stage of the Tour de Ski 2023/24.
The American cross-country skier was eighth in the 15km mass start classic in Val di Fiemme, Italy, on Saturday (6 January), less than six seconds behind Linn Svahn who claimed her third stage win of this year's race.
Svahn crossed the line four-tenths of a second ahead of reigning Tour de Ski champion Frida Karlsson with Germany's Katharina Hennig a further second back in third.
Diggins' nearest rival in the general classification, Olympic sprint champion Jonna Sundling, was fourth as she reduced the gap to the yellow bib by a couple of seconds.
Karlsson is third overall with Finland's Kerttu Niskanen and Svahn also within a minute of 2021 winner Diggins' lead.
Sunday's final stage, the infamous final pursuit climb up Alpe Cermis, will decide the champion.
Harald Østberg Amundsen carries a healthy advantage of a minute and 34 seconds into the finale after finishing sixth on the day behind fellow Norwegian Erik Valnes.
William Poromaa of Sweden pipped Switzerland's Cyril Faehndrich for second place, but both are a long way back in the general classification.
Valnes lies second overall with Martin Loewstroem Nyenget a further eight seconds back.
