Tokyo Olympics: India’s Priyanka Goswami, Bhawna Jat in women’s 20km race walk, watch live

Priyanka Goswami and Bhawna Jat will spearhead Indian hopes at the Sapporo Odori Park when the Tokyo Olympics women’s 20km race walk gets underway on Friday, August 6.
Bhawna Jat, aged 25, was the first female Indian race walker to book an Olympics berth at the 2020 Indian Racewalking Championships. Bhawna Jat clocked 1:29:54, a new national record then.
A year later, Priyanka Goswami, 25, bettered the national record by clocking 1:28.45 at the national championships in February this year to qualify for Tokyo 2020. Priyanka Goswami is world No. 55 while Bhawna Jat is world No. 139.
Two-time Olympics medallist and reigning world champion Liu Hong, London 2012 silver medallist Qieyang Shenjie and 2017 world champion Yang Jiayu will be favourites for the title. Qieyang is also the 2019 world championship silver medallist. All three are from China.
Elena Lashmanova of Russia holds the Olympic record with a time of 1:25:02, set at the 2012 London Olympics. Jiayu Yang of China holds the world record with 1:23:49, set at the Chinese Race Walking Championships in Huangshan in March this year.
The women’s 20km race walk final will be held on Friday, August 6. It will start at 1:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
