Novak Djokovic will not compete at the ATP Finals 2024 in Turin this month, he announced on Tuesday (5 November).

The Olympic men's singles tennis champion will not return to defend the end-of-season title, which he won in 2023, citing injury reasons for his withdrawal from the end-of-season tournament.

Djokovic said on Instagram, “It’s quite an honour to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. I was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week.

“Apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon!”

Djokovic was on the verge of securing qualification for the finals, sitting sixth in the 2024 year rankings with 3,910 points.

However, his withdrawal five days before the tournament gets underway opens the door for the ninth best-ranked player in the men's singles for this year to earn his spot at the season-ending tournament.

The ATP Finals take place in Italy from 10-17 November, with eight men’s singles players qualifying for the finals in Turin.

Djokovic has suffered an injury-ridden year in which he won a defiant gold medal in the men’s singles event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
