Reigning UEFA European women's champions England fell short in their bid to qualify Team GB to next summer's Paris 2024 Olympic Games Tuesday (5 December) despite a 6-0 victory over Scotland in the UEFA Women's Nations League.

England needed to finish top of their group, which includes the Netherlands squad, to keep their qualifying dreams alive but came up just short. England and the Netherlands are tied with 12 points, both having four wins and two losses.

The difference maker was goal differiental with Netherlands having 8 and England 7.

Both squads were in action Tuesday as a business-like England did its best to squeak past the Dutch, hammering in four goals in the opening half and adding two in the final period.

Lauren James was the Lionesses' leading scorer with back-to-back goals in the 38th and 39th minutes.

But while England was running up the score against Scotland, so too were the Netherlands which notched a 4-0 win over Belgium which put them top of the table. The Dutch were led by two goals a piece from Lineth Beerensteyn and Damaris Egurrola.

The UEFA Women's Nations League finals are set for 21–28 February 2024.
