At the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, 100 of the best ski jumpers in the world will compete in six events in Predazzo, Val di Fiemme, Italy. For the first in the history of the sport, an equal number of women and men will compete.

Ski jumping has been part of the Olympic programme since the first Olympic Winter Games, which took place in 1924 in Chamonix, France. The only event on the programme at those Games was the men's normal hill individual event. The men's large hill and the men's team event were added to the programme at Innsbruck 1964 and Calgary 1988, respectively.

The long-awaited women's normal hill event was introduced to the programme at Sochi 2014. Eight years later at Beijing 2022, the mixed team event debuted at the Games. At Milano Cortina 2026, the women's large hill event will also be added to the programme, along with the men's super team event which replaces the men's team event.

Simon Ammann of Switzerland and Finland's Matti Nykanen are two legends of the sport, with both winning four Olympic gold medals. Britain's Michael Edwards, known fondly as "Eddie the Eagle", gained fame and won fans' hearts when he competed at Calgary 1988. Germany's Carina Vogt became the first women's gold medallist in the sport, blazing a trail for many great female athletes to come. Recent stars include the Olympic medallists Kobayashi Ryoyu of Japan, Marius Lindvik of Norway and Katharina Schmid of Germany, each of whom keep pushing the sport forward.

Ski jumpers are currently competing for the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
