Sha'Carri Richardson edged Julien Alfred in a thrilling women's 100m race at the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League track and field meet on Thursday (5 September).

In their first meeting since the Paris 2024 final on 3 August at the Stade de France, where Alfred beat Richardson to become her nation's first Olympic champion, it was the Saint Lucian who got away the quickest again.

Competing on a wet track at Letzigrund Stadium thanks to a deluge of rain an hour before the meet, 2023 world champion Richardson was slow out the blocks and was fifth at the halfway point.

But the U.S. athlete eventually hit top speed to fly past a stacked field of competitors and take the win in 10.84.

In a reverse of the Olympic final placings, Alfred finished second in 10.88, while Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain delivered an assured performance to complete the podium in third with 10.89.
