The fastest woman in the world now has a stadium named after.
The track at Jesse Owens Athletic Complex's John Kincaide Stadium in Dallas will now be named after the Sha'Carri Richardson who won the 100m at the worlds in August in a championship record of 10.65.
The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Thursday, 19 October, unanimously to have the track field named after the three-time world medallist.
“This means so much. If you from the city, you know the stadium is rooted in memories. I’m literally speechless,” Richardson posted on social media.
It is a befitting honour for the 23-year-old who honed her sprinting talent in Dallas.
She was an eight-time State Champion at Carter High School which is very close to the stadium.
The American moved on to Louisiana State University where she set a new 100m collegiate record of 10.75.
Richardson who has been shortlisted for the Female World Athlete of the Year 2023, also made headlines last weekend when she attended the Formula one race in Austin.
Accompanying her was British world 200m champion Dina Asher-Smith.
Richardson later handed over plaques to the podium finshers Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton.
