Sprint world champions Sha'Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson are among the 11 females nominated for Women's World Athlete of the Year 2023.
The shortlist of track and field stars was announced by World Athletics on Wednesday (11 October), two months before the winner will be announced on 11 December.
Many of the athletes are included after their performances at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023, where Faith Kipyegon claimed two of the three middle-distance world records she achieved this year. The Kenyan is one of five women on the list who have broken world records in 2023
The full list of nominees (in alphabetical order) is:
- Tigist Assefa, Ethiopia - World record in marathon.
- Femke Bol, Netherlands - World 400m hurdles champion, World indoor 400m record.
- Shericka Jackson, Jamaica - World 200m champion, World 100m silver medallist, Diamond League 100m and 200m champion.
- Faith Kipyegon, Kenya - World 1500m and 5000m champion, World records in 1500m, mile, and 5000m.
- Haruka Kitaguchi, Japan - World javelin champion, Diamond League javelin champion.
- Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Ukraine - World high jump champion, Diamond League high jump champion.
- Maria Perez, Spain - World 20km and 35km race walk world champion. World record in 35km race walk.
- Gudaf Tsegay, Ethiopia - World 10,000m champion. Diamond League 5000m champion, World Record in 5000m.
- Sha’Carri Richardson, USA - World 100m champion.
- Yulimar Rojas, Venezuela - World triple jump champion, Diamond League triple jump champion.
- Winfred Yavi, Bahrain - World 3000m steeplechase champion, Diamond League steeplechase champion.
