The stars were out Thursday night (22 September) in Hollywood.

Members of the 2008 U.S. men's Olympic basketball team, which won the gold medal over Spain, walked the red carpet at the Tudum Theater for the premiere of 'The Redeem Team,' a documentary about the squad set to be released 7 October exclusively on Netflix.

Olympic champions and NBA super stars Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard were in attendance, along with 2014 Olympic ice dance champion Meryl Davis and 2018 Olympic figure skating team bronze medallist Adam Rippon.

"Before you go play in the Olympics, you don't really understand how big that moment is," Wade told Olympics.com, reflecting on how important his Olympic gold medal is in his storied career. "Standing up on that podium at the end, when they're playing our national anthem, before they bring the gold medals out, you realise in that moment, that this is the world. You're the best in the world... It was special."

Actress Gabrielle Union, star of feature films including 'Bring it On' and '10 Things I Hate About You' and Wade's wife, was also on hand for the festivities.

The documentary chronicles Team USA's journey from a disappointing bronze medal at Athens 2004 to a return to the top of the podium at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The U.S. team is considered one of the best-ever assembled, featuring the legendary Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Chris Bosh, and Chris Paul, in addition to Wade and Howard.

Seeking a comeback

The U.S. team had a clear objective at the 2008 Games: return to its former glory after a shocking defeat four years earlier.

At Athens 2004, they failed to bring home gold for the first time since the 'Dream Team' of Barcelona 1992 when NBA stars were first admitted to the tournament.

With Mike Krzyzewski, aka Coach K, at the helm and Bryant captaining the side, Team USA overcame historic challenges to regain their Olympic title in Beijing.

Produced by the Olympic Channel along with the Kennedy/Marshall Company and Mandalay Sports Media, in association with 59th and Prairie Entertainment, UNINTERRUPTED, NBA Entertainment and USA Basketball, the film is directed by Jon Weinbach.

'The Redeem Team' is the first collaborative feature documentary between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Netflix.

Previously, the Olympic Channel has chronicled the history-making Argentine squad that took gold in 2004 in 'The Golden Generation.'
