The Pro Kabaddi League 2024 season concluded with Haryana Steelers defeating Patna Pirates in the PKL Season 11 final at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune on Sunday.
Like every year, this edition also featured some of the top kabaddi talents from across the world and as expected, the race to become the top defender in PKL 2024 was a hotly-contested one.
Haryana Steelers' Mohammadreza Shadloui scored the most tackle points in PKL 2024 with 82 from 24 matches. He narrowly edged out Patna Pirates' Ankit Jaglan, who managed 79 from 25 games.
This is the third time that Shadloui has finished a PKL season with the most tackle points, having won the top defenders' honours in season eight and 10 as well.
The 11th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) had kicked off on October 18 with 12 teams - Puneri Paltan, Telugu Titans, Bengaluru Bulls, Bengal Warriorz, U Mumba, Haryana Steelers, Tamil Thalaivas, Dabang Delhi, Gujarat Giants, Jaipur Pink Panthers, Patna Pirates and UP Yoddhas - vying for the top prize.
Top defenders in Pro Kabaddi 2024
Fazel Atrachali, the Iranian powerhouse, recently became the first defender to score over 500 tackle points in PKL history, achieving this milestone while playing for Bengal Warriorz in 2024.
Atrachali was the top-scoring defender in the fourth and seventh seasons while playing for Patna Pirates and U Mumba, respectively.
Manjeet Chhillar was the top defender in the PKL in its inaugural season back in 2014, scoring 51 points for the Bengaluru Bulls.
Chhillar became the first player to emerge as the top defender twice when he scored 61 tackle points for Puneri Paltan in the third season. He is third on the all-time list behind Fazel Atrachali and Surjeet Singh.
Nitesh Kumar became a PKL legend by scoring an unmatched 100 tackle points in the sixth season with UP Yoddhas.
Iranian all-rounder Shadloui came close to breaking that record last season, scoring 99 tackle points for the Haryana Steelers. Shadloui was also the league’s leading defender in season 8, with 89 tackle points for Patna Pirates.
Other players who have emerged as the league’s most successful defenders include Ravinder Pahal (Season 2), Surender Nada (Season 5) and Ankush (Season 9).
