Shericka Jackson won the latest instalment of her ongoing battle with Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100m at the Diamond League Final in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday (16 September).

The Jamaican finished powerfully to overhaul long-time leader Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Côte d’Ivoire to claim the Diamond Trophy at the Prefontaine Classic in 10.70 seconds.

Ta Lou was second in 10.75 with two-time Olympic 100m champion Elaine Thompson-Herah clocking a season's best 10.79 in third place, just ahead of world champion Richardson.

This was world 200m champion Jackson's first win over Richardson in four 100m races this season, and she will attempt to complete a Diamond double in the 200m on Sunday.

Richardson looked far from disappointed afterwards at the end of a season in which she claimed her first global title, winning 100m gold in Budapest in a championship record 10.65. She then added 200m bronze and 4x100m relay gold in the Hungarian capital.

“What matters is being whole with myself as an athlete, being a great competitor, executing what it is that I know I can after having an amazing season. I am not mad at all about the time that I did today,” Richardson said.

“Today was amazing, a great end to the season. It just gives me stuff to work on, prepare for the Olympics next year.”
