The world’s best 68 men’s and women’s sport climbing athletes will compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, from 5-10 August.

This growing sport will now feature twice as many medal opportunities as Tokyo 2020, where sport climbing debuted on the Olympic programme. The two medal events now include speed, and bouldering and lead combined.

Forty athletes will compete in boulder and lead, with 28 men and women competing in speed.

Athletes will be competing in the brand new Le Bourget Climbing venue, a scenic venue featuring three covered outdoor competition walls.

Speed climbing will see lithe athletes competing to reach the top of a standardised 15-metre wall in the fastest possible time, while Boulder and lead features two unique climbing walls with the same goal of reaching the highest point possible using strength and strategy.

Paris 2024 will see both defending gold medallists competing in boulder and lead, with lightning-fast climbers in speed.

Below, we take a closer look at the stars to watch out for in Paris, a full schedule, and how to watch the action.

Sport Climbing stars to watch at Paris 2024 Olympics

Boulder and lead will see defending gold medalists Alberto Ginés and Janja Garnbret returning to defend their medals.

Spanish sport climbing prodigy Ginés, was only 18 when he became the first Olympic gold medallist in sport climbing and has only improved sice then.

The Slovenian star, Garnbret, is the one to beat. She leads the IFSC rankings in boulder and lead by a mile. In her last ten starts, only one was off the top spot, with a second-place finish.

Team USA’s Brooke Raboutou dominated the OQS, winning both events to earn her berth. The 23-year-old from Boulder, Colorado, will be looking to improve on her fifth-place finish in Tokyo.

Defending bronze medalist, Austria’s Jakob Schubert comes into these Games ranked third in boulder and lead rankings.

Japan will have defending silver medalist Nonaka Miho, who earned second place at the OQS, as well as reigning lead world champion Mori Ai in contention.

Speed Climbing features new faces in the Olympics including Zhou Yafei and Wu Peng representing People's Republic of China. Zhou and Wu earned first- and second-place finishes at the OQS.

Poland will be cheering for world record holder Aleksandra Miroslaw and Aleksandra Kalucka who leads the iFSC speed rankings.

Look for Frenchman Bassa Mawem, to redeem his injury-riddled Tokyo experience. And Emma Hunt and USA compatriot Sam Watson, will be two of the strongest contenders for the Americans.
