Day 10 at the Paris 2024 Olympics was full of ups and downs for India, where the athletes failed to convert their medal opportunities.

Lakshya Sen came agonisingly close to winning the first men’s singles badminton medal for India at the Olympics. Despite bagging the first game, he lost a topsy-turvy bronze medal match against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia.

Shooters Maheshwari Chauhan and Anand Jeet Singh Naruka narrowly missed out on making the skeet mixed team podium, losing the bronze medal contest by one point against the People’s Republic of China.

Thus, India’s shooting campaign at Paris 2024 ended with three bronze medals.

Avinash Sable, however, delivered the headline result of the day. In round 1 of the men’s 3000m steeplechase event, the reigning Asian Games champion finished fifth in heat 2 and advanced to his first Olympic final.

Kiran Pahal, on the other hand, will race in the women’s 4000m repechage after falling short of the direct qualification mark on Monday.

Earlier, Manika Batra starred in the women’s team table tennis round of 16 match against Romania. Her two wins helped India make the quarter-finals.

India’s wrestling events kicked off in Paris as well. On her Olympic debut, Nisha Dahiya upstaged former European champion Tetiana Sova in the round of 16 before an injury in the second period of the quarter-finals forced a heartbreaking defeat against Pak Sol Gum of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Indian sailors Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan, meanwhile, could not make the medal race in their respective events.

Sable was in the lead early in the heat 2 race, however, he dropped to fourth with two laps to go. He lost another place in the final lap but was far ahead of the sixth-placed Matthew Wilkinson of the USA.
