India’s Paris 2024 Olympics schedule kicks off on July 25 and over the course of the next 16 days, 112 athletes from the country will compete in 69 medal events across 16 sports.
A 29-member-strong athletics team will form a large chunk of the Indian contingent at Paris 2024. Neeraj Chopra and Co. will travel to France to compete in 16 different medal events.
A shooting squad of 21 will be India’s second-largest commitment to any sport at Paris 2024. This is by far the biggest Indian contingent fielded at any Games, comfortably eclipsing the 15 from Tokyo 2020.
The archers, including Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, will be the first Indians to compete at Paris 2024 when they step onto Les Invalides for the individual ranking rounds on July 25, a day prior to the official Opening Ceremony.
India’s first medal opportunity at Paris 2024, however, will be at the ranges of the National Shooting Center in Châteauroux, where the mixed team 10m air rifle medal matches are scheduled on July 27.
Two Indian teams - Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal - are scheduled to contest in mixed team 10m air rifle. Manu Bhaker will be in action in two individual pistol events as well as in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
Neeraj Chopra, meanwhile, will compete in the men’s javelin throw event, with the qualifiers scheduled on August 6 and the finals two days later. He is the defending champion in the event.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will be seen in the badminton events, scheduled from July 27 to August 5, while Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu’s women’s 49kg weightlifting competition is slated for August 7th.
Tokyo bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain will be fighting in the boxing events, which start on July 27 and end on August 10. Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen is also poised for her Olympic debut in Paris.
Archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, wrestling, table tennis and tennis are the 16 sports Indian athletes will be competing in at Paris 2024.
India returned with a record haul of seven medals, including one gold, from Tokyo 2020 and will look to better the count at Paris 2024.
