Only four teams remain in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament 2024 and the fight for the top is getting ever fiercer.
Iowa Hawkeye and NCAA all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark put on another dominant display to dispatch defending champions LSU 94-87 in a March Madness battle for the ages on Monday night (1 April).
The Elite Eight match-up, a rematch of last year's championship game, was billed as a marquee event and met all expectations.
Despite the best efforts of the Angel Reese-led Tigers, Clark was untameable, scoring a game-high 41 points on 13-of-29 shooting, including 9 of 20 from the 3-point range.
Clark and the Hawkeyes will now advance to the Final Four where they are slated to meet UConn, who defeated USC 80-73 to book their place in the tournament semi-final.
UConn star player Paige Bueckers, who missed last season with an ACL tear, produced 28 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks to see the Huskies win over the No.1 seed. A blockbuster match, featuring Bueckers and Clark, now awaits.
On the other side of the bracket, the overall number one seed South Carolina Gamecocks defeated Oregon State 70-58 to set up a Final Four meeting with the NC State Wolfpack.
The Gamecocks are aiming for their third national title under three-time Olympic gold medallist Dawn Staley, and with a formidable roster that includes Kamilla Cardoso, they will start the game as favourites over NC State who has never won an NCAA Tournament championship.
The Final four - the semifinals of the annual NCAA Championship - will take place on Friday, 5 April with a place in Sunday's final on the line.
