Japan's Nishimoto Kenta upset No. 4 seed Loh Kean Yew Thursday (9 March) to book his slot in badminton's German Open 2023 quarter-finals.
Perhaps showing signs of tiredness after his three-game win in round 2, the 2021 world champion from Singapore lost the opening game to Nishimoto, 21-17, at the BWF World Tour Super 300 event in Muelheim an der Ruhr.
Loh battled back to take the second game in dominant fashion at 21-13, but Nishimoto refused to go away, taking the third and decisive game (21-19).
Next up for Nishimoto is a quarter-final clash against the winner of Japan's Momota Kento and Brian Yang of Canada.
