Lena Duerr edged out Mikaela Shiffrin to claim her first alpine skiing World Cup win in the Spindleruv Mlyn slalom on Sunday (29 January).
The German - who just missed out on a medal at Beijing 2022 - was second to Shiffrin after the first run, but showed nerves of steel on the penultimate run of the competition to take the lead.
Shiffrin, who on Tuesday became the skier with most Women's World Cup race wins and won Saturday's slalom, tried to respond to Duerr's effort, but ultimately fell short by 0.06 seconds.
Croatian teenager Zrinka Ljutic had her first career podium finish in third place.
Duerr, who became Germany's first women's World Cup slalom winner since Maria Hofl-Riesch, told FIS, "It took me a while and I tried to risk it all. I had a little mistake on the flat but I went all in.
"I’ve been racing with Maria (Hofl-Riesch), and it’s so cool it worked out today."
Shiffrin extended her lead in the overall World Cup standings over Petra Vlhova to 731 points.
The double Olympic gold medallist will have to wait until March to try and equal Ingemar Stenmark's overall World Cup win record of 86, as her focus now turns to the Alpine Ski World Championships, 6-19 February, in Courchevel and Meribel.
