LeBron James has once again cemented his status as one of basketball’s greatest ever players by writing another chapter in the history books.

On Thursday (19 December), he clocked his 57,447th minute in the NBA as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings.

As a result, the 39-year-old overtakes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's long-standing record, the latter’s career culminating with 57,446 minutes in 1989.

"It's just a commitment to the craft and to the passion and love I have for the game. I don't take much time in the off-season,” the new record holder said.

"I didn't take much time in the off-season, no matter if I was making the 10 Finals appearances back-to-back and just always trying to keep my body in tip-top shape."

It’s not the first time James has pipped a tally held by six-time NBA champion Abdul-Jabbar, either.

Just last year, he became the all-time leading scorer in the league by eclipsing 38,387 points.

James, who turns 40 this month, has since gone on to register over 41,000 and counting.
