Track cycling superstar Laura Kenny seems unlikely to add to her record of five Olympic gold medals and one silver at the next Games in Paris.
On 20 July, Britain's most successful female Olympian gave birth to a new baby boy named Monty, becoming a parent for the second time along with her husband, and former cyclist, Jason Kenny.
“I just think never say never,” the heavily pregnant 31-year-old said in May to the Manchester Evening News when asked about a possible return for Paris 2024.
Recently Stephen Park, the performance director of British cycling, confirmed that Kenny’s participationin the next Olympics is going to be a race against time.
"I think it’s going to be a stretch for her to come back for Paris," he told The Telegraph.
"Certainly, we’re expecting (Kenny) to come back onto the bike. She’s got a return-to-ride programme. The last time I spoke to her, she was (motivated). But she’s only just had a baby. So, I dare say there’ll be some time for that to settle in before she’s in a position to think about (the Olympics).”
Laura and Jason Kenny had their first son, Albie, in 2017. Laura Kenny holds two Olympic gold medals in both omnium and team pursuit. She claimed her fifth Olympic title at Tokyo 2020, winnicng the madison with her good friend Katie Archibald.
Jason Kenny is Britain's most successful Olympian with seven gold medals, while Laura Kenny is the fourth most winnng Brit. Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins are placed between the Olympic power couple as the second and third most decorated British athletes at the Games.
