Malaysia's only track cycling world champion returns to the World Championships this week looking to add to his sole triumph.

Muhammad Azizulhasni Awang, the 2017 keirin world champion and two-time Olympic medallist, is due to race in three events at the 2023 UCI Track World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, from 3–9 August – part of the inaugural combined UCI Cycling World Championships, running from 2–13 August.

He is entered as part of the Malaysian men's team sprint alongside Muhammad Fadhil Zonis, Umar Hasbullah, and Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom, which will open the country's World Championships campaign on 3 August from 6:53pm Malaysian time.

Azizulhasni Awang then competes in the individual event, in which he won world silver in 2009 and bronze in 2020, before progressing to his pet event – the keirin. In addition to his gold in 2017, Azizulhasni has won world silver in 2010 and bronze in 2015, 2016, and 2020, as well as Olympic bronze at Rio 2016 and silver at Tokyo 2020 in this event.

It will be a return to the keirin for Azizulhasni at the world level for the first time since 2020, having sat out both the 2021 and 2022 World Championships.
