Maharashtra topped the KIYG 2023 medal table with 56 gold medals, 55 silvers and 50 bronze. Haryana finished second with 41 golds, 32 silvers and 55 bronze.
Khelo India Youth Games 2023, the fifth edition of the flagship event under the Indian government’s Khelo India initiative, concluded on February 11, 2023.
A total of 11 venues spread across eight cities in Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi hosted the different KIYG 2023 events. Over 5,000 athletes, representing the 36 states and Union Territories of India, competed for 973 medals - 295 gold, 295 silver and 383 bronze - in 27 sports at the Khelo India Youth Games 2023.
Maharashtra won the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 title after topping the medals tally with 56 gold medals, 55 silvers and 50 bronze. Last edition's champions Haryana finished second with 41 golds, 32 silvers and 55 bronze.
The scale of the Khelo India Youth Games went up from last year with fencing and water sports (canoeing, kayaking and slalom) being added to the 25-sport list from the last edition.
The Khelo India Youth Games is structured like a team championships, where medals won by each athlete or team count towards their respective State or Union Territory’s medals tally. At the end of the event, the State or UT with the highest number of gold medals is declared the winner.
Haryana topped the Khelo India Youth Games medals table in the inaugural edition in 2018, then called the Khelo India School Games, but Maharashtra clinched the KIYG title in 2019 and 2020.
In this edition, hosts Madhya Pradesh fielded the largest contingent (474 athletes) fand came in third with 39 gold, 30 silver and 27 bronze medals.
