K-Pop artist Taeyang named PyeongChang Ambassador
The PyeongChang Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (POCOG) has unveiled K-pop sensation Taeyang as the latest Korean celebrity to become an honorary ambassador for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang.
The 29-year old first rose to stardom in 2006 as part of the boy band Big Bang, who won the Best Worldwide Act at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. He was also the first Korean artist to enter Forbes Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential musicians under 30.
He has since been making a name for himself as a solo artist, picking up some notable accolades along the way including best Male Artist at the Asian Music Awards in 2014, while his song “Eyes, Nose, Lips” won song of the year at the 2015 Golden Disc Awards.

POCOG President Lee Hee-Beom was delighted to see the singer added to the roster of PyeongChang ambassadors. “K-Pop has a huge following in Korea and around the world so we are very happy to have Taeyang as an ambassador for the Games,” he enthused. “He will help us reach out to a younger audience and get them engaged and excited about winter sports.”
