American wrestling star Jordan Burroughs, the 2012 Olympic champion at 74kg, won’t add another medal to his career resume after losing his quarter-final bout Wednesday at the World Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Albania.

Burroughs fell to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Mohammad Ashghar Nokhodilarimi, 6-4, in the quarter-final, ending the American’s chances at a medal.

The 36-year-old, who owns six world titles, secured 4-0 and 4-2 wins over France’s Zelimkhan Khadjiev and Albania’s Magomet Evloev, respectively, in the opening two rounds of competition.

Burroughs’ career future is uncertain after missing out on Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.

In August, after making the U.S. team for the World Championships, he admitted times haven’t been easy lately.

“This has been a hard six months for me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue to wrestle,” Burroughs said. “I’ve got a lot to fight for. People count on me not only to win but to be at my best, to show them that you can persevere and be resilient in any circumstance.”
