Just under three months after the conclusion of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the Senior World Wrestling Championships will kick off in Tirana, Albania and will run from 28-31 October, featuring 12 weight classes that were not contested in Paris.

The United States will send an athlete for each of the 12 classes, broken down into four wrestlers for each of the men’s and women’s freestyle categories, as well as four Greco-Roman athletes.

The men’s freestyle team was annnounced on Sunday 15 September and will go into the Championships as the most experienced of the three teams, boasting two Olympic and 10 world titles between the four of them.

That quartet is composed of Jordan Burroughs (79kg), David Taylor (92kg), Vito Arujau (61kg) and James Green (70kg), all of whom have landed on the podium at the Senior World Championships before.

Burroughs headlines the men's competition with six world titles, two of which are in the weight class he will be competing in Tirana, and the rest in the 74 kg category. The 36-year-old boasts an Olympic crown from London 2012, but after finishing in ninth place at Rio 2016, he has not made another Olympic appearance.

Taylor clinched an Olympic crown at Tokyo 2020, but failed to qualify for Paris 2024 after falling to eventual bronze medalist Aaron Brooks at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. He has three world titles under his belt and will be looking for redemption in Tirana after failing to defend his Olympic title.

Representing the United States in the women’s freestyle classes is 2019 world champion Jacarra Winchester (59kg), 2023 world silver medalist Macey Kilty (65kg), 2021 World Team member Kylie Welker (72kg) and Areana Villaescusa (55kg), who will be the only member of 12 to compete on the world stage for the first time in Tirana.

All four Greco-Roman athletes set to compete in Tirana are seasoned world championship wrestlers, having all competed on the stage before.

Two-time Olympians Aliaksandr Kikiniou and Ildar Hafizov will represent the United States in the 82 kg and 63kg categories, respectively, while 2023 World Team member Brady Koontz will compete in the 55 kg class and Benjamin Peak will represent the U.S. in the 72 kg category.
