Inomata Soya and Sugawara Mei were crowned winners of the Japan Park Skateboarding Championships Park in Tokyo on Sunday (27 October).

Fifteen-year-old Inomata - who was second in vert at last month's X Games Chiba - put down a second run of 75.69 to capture the men's title at Ariake Urban Sports Park, where the Tokyo 2020 Olympic skateboarding competition was held.

Amano Taiyo was second with defending champion Sasaoka Kensuke - 10 years Inomata's senior - in third on 71.84.

Sugawara Mei won the women’s championship for her first time in a desperately tight women's competition.

The 17-year-old took victory with 60.97 from Hasegawa Mizuho (60.78). Sugawara's younger sister Rui was third with 59.23.

Eleven-year-old Satake Hikari was the top qualifier for the eight-woman final, but did not take part after suffering an injury in practice

No Olympians took part in these championships including two-time Games silver medallist Hiraki Cocona and Yosozumi Sakura, the Tokyo 2020 champion, who are out with a broken right ankle and broken wrist, respectively.
