Indian shooter Rahi Sarnobat won the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Osijek, Croatia, on Monday.

Rahi Sarnobat was in sensational form throughout the event and won the final by a handsome margin.

The 30-year-old from Ranchi scored 39 - one less than the world record of 40 - in the final round. Mathilde Lamolle of France won the silver with six points less.

India’s teen sensation Manu Bhaker, who was also a part of the final,  got knocked out early.

The 19-year-old finished seventh after losing a shoot-off against Viktoria Chaika of Bulgaria.

Rahi Sarnobat and Manu Bhaker had made it to the final after a stellar qualification round that saw them finish second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Tejaswini Sawant and Anjum Moudgil had a challenging day as they failed to qualify for the final of the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions.

While Tejaswini Sawant amassed a total score of 1168 to finish in 20th place in the qualifying round, Anjum Moudgil, with 1162, placed 32nd. Only the top eight qualified for the final.

Including Rahi Sarnobat’s gold medal, the Indian shooting contingent has now won four medals at Croatia with all coming in pistol events.

The women’s 10m air pistol team of Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat and Yashaswini Singh Deswal won bronze while the duo of Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary claimed silver in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Saurabh Chaudhary opened the account with a bronze medal in men’s 10m air pistol last Thursday.
