Biography

Yashaswini Singh Deswal is a young pistol shooter from India, aiming to make a mark for herself at the Tokyo Olympics.

Born on March 30, 1997, in Panchkula, Haryana, Yashaswini Singh Deswal was inspired to take up shooting after she watched the 2010 Commonwealth Games on television and dreamt of winning a medal for the country.

Her journey with shooting started in 2012 when she was 15. Yashaswini’s talent came to the fore with her first gold medal coming later that year at the school nationals.

In 2014, Yashaswini Singh Deswal qualified for the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China where she finished sixth. She won silver in the juniors at the 2014 Asian Championships and helped the women’s team to bronze at the ISSF Junior World Cup that year.

The young Indian shooter continued her steady progress, becoming junior national champion in 2015, winning silver at the 2016 ISSF Junior World Cup and gold at the 2016 South Asian Games.

Yashaswini Singh Deswal then clinched gold in the 2017 ISSF Junior World Championships with a score of 235.9 in the final - equalling the then junior world record.
