Saurabh Chaudhary, Manu Bhaker win air pistol mixed team silver in Croatia

Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal lost their bronze medal match against Iran in the ISSF World Cup. The rifle team drew a blank.

Indian shooters Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker won the silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Osijek, Croatia, on Saturday.

The second Indian team of Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal, meanwhile, lost their bronze medal match and finished empty-handed in the event.

In the qualifying round, Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker finished second on the list with 387 points and set up a gold medal show-off against ROC’s Vitalina Batsarashkina and Artem Chernousov, who topped the qualifiers with 390.

Shooting for the gold medal, Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker fell 12-6 behind at one point but mounted a terrific comeback to level the score at 12-12.

The ROC team, though, sneaked ahead at the end, winning the entertaining tie 16-12.

Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal took the third spot in the qualifying round with 385 points and faced Iranian shooters Golnoush Ebghatollahi and Javad Foroughi for the bronze medal.

In the medal match, the Indians lost to the Iranian team 17-7 and missed out on a podium finish.

Saturday’s medal takes India’s medals tally at the Croatia World Cup to three.

Saurabh Chaudhary had claimed bronze in individual men’s 10m air pistol event on the opening day while Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat and Yashaswini Singh Deswal clinched the women’s air pistol team bronze medal on Day 2.

Divyansh Singh Panwar, Elavenil Valarivan disappoint in rifle event

In the 10m air rifle mixed team event, the Indian team of Divyansh Singh Panwar and Elavenil Valarivan failed to qualify for the medal matches.

With a total score of 416.1 in qualifying, the Indian team finished sixth behind Hungary, two ROC teams, the USA and Austria. They needed to place within the top four to earn a spot in one of the medal matches.
