Gaganjeet Bhullar finishes tied-55th at Italian Open golf

Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar ended tied-55th after an even-par 72 in the final round of the European Tour’s Italian Open on Sunday.

This was Bhullar’s first cut on the Tour since it restarted as he started the event strong at the Chervo Golf Club in Brescia, Italy.

Bhullar did not record any 60-score rounds in any of his five starts since the Tour restarted. But the Indian golfer carded 68 and 69 in the first two rounds in Italy to make the cut comfortably.

However, Bhullar could not sustain that run over the weekend. In the third round on Saturday, he sunk two birdies on the front nine but let the advantage slip with two bogies on the back nine to end on even-par.

The final round brought a lot more drama for Bhullar. He began with a bogey on the par-3 second and then carded a first birdie on the next hole.

Two bogies followed on the fourth and fifth holes but the Indian golfer pulled it back with consecutive birdies on the par-5 sixth and par-4 seventh. Bhullar hit a fourth bogey of the day on the eighth and ended the front nine one-over.

The 32-year-old Bhullar regained his composure on the back part of the course though. He calmly hit made par on each hole, and sunk an opportunistic birdie on the par-4 15th to finish with an even-par.

McGowan takes the title

Ross McGowan birdied two of the final three holes to end an 11-year wait for his second title on the European Tour. His first came at the Madrid Masters in 2009.

McGowan and fellow Englishman Laurie Canter had been neck-and-neck for most of the event and were in the joint lead coming into Sunday.

The script continued in the final round as late as the 16th hole as Canter shot par and McGowan looked in trouble. However, the latter holed brilliantly out of a bunker to make birdie and then sunk another on the final hole to take the title by one shot.
