Shubhankar Sharma impresses at Scottish Championship golf
The Indian golfer carded a commendable four-under 68 in the final round to settle for a tied 37th finish while SSP Chawrasia slipped to 51st.
Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma produced a fine show over the weekend to end the European Tour’s Scottish Championship in a respectable position on Sunday.
Sneaking in for the weekend’s action by the thinnest of margins, Sharma was keen to make the most of his opportunity. And he did just that as a two-under 70 in the third and four-under 68 in the final round saw him climb the ladder and finish tied 37th.
Meanwhile, senior pro SSP Chawrasia failed to build on a fine start and had to settle for tied-51st at the Fairmont St. Andrews Hotel course in St. Andrews, Scotland.
Spain’s Adrian Otaegui took home his first 72-hole stroke play with a fantastic nine-under 63 in the final round to win the Scottish Championship.
Shubhankar Sharma’s late show
Starting the final round on tied-43, Shubhankar Sharma was on the money from the opening hole. A birdie on the first and ninth meant he climbed the leaderboard at a steady pace.
And though his birdie on the par-five 12th was negated by a bogey on the 14th, the Indian golfer ensured he made up for the slip and wrapped up his round with birdies on the final two holes for an aggregate score of four-under 281 (71-72-70-68).
Meanwhile, SSP Chawrasia endured a difficult time as he slipped to tied-51 following a four-over 76 in the third round.
Though he managed a two-under 70 on Sunday, his performance couldn’t help him gain ground on the leaderboard. He finished with an aggregate of two-under 284 (69-69-76-70).
What’s next on the European Tour
The European Tour will continue with the Italian Open at the Chervò Golf Club in Brescia, Italy which tees off on October 22.
