Just days after he was discharged from a Mohali hospital, Indian track and field legend Milkha Singh was readmitted to a Chandigarh hospital on Thursday night following a dip in his oxygen levels, his son Jeev Milkha Singh confirmed.

The Flying Sikh was diagnosed with COVID-19 last month and was admitted to a Mohali hospital on May 24 following complaints of diarrhoea and dehydration apart from reduced oxygen saturation level.

The 1960 Rome Olympian was treated in the COVID ICU at the Mohali facility but was later shifted to the ward along with his wife Nirmal Kaur, who also tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week.

Later, Nirmal Kaur -- the former Indian volleyball captain -- had to be moved to the ICU on May 26 following pneumonia. An improving Milkha Singh was discharged last Sunday and was placed in home isolation.

At home, the 91-year-old Milkha Singh -- a former Commonwealth Games champion -- continued to be on oxygen support. But he had to be moved to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) following a stark drop in oxygen saturation levels.

Milkha Singh is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the COVID hospital. His condition is currently stable.

Milkha and Nirmal’s daughter Dr Mona Singh, who works in the COVID ward at the Metropolitan hospital in New York, is also in town and is coordinating with the doctors.
