Legendary former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh was moved from home isolation and admitted to hospital in Mohali, Punjab on Monday after he tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
Though Milkha Singh was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), his condition is said to be stable.
“He is presently on low flow oxygen and medical management,” the Fortis Hospital, where he is currently admitted, stated.
The 91-year-old Milkha Singh, a three-time Olympian and a Commonwealth Games and Asian Games gold-medallist, tested positive last Wednesday and was quarantined at home in Chandigarh.
His son, the golfer Jeev Milkha Singh said that hospitalisation was only a precautionary measure.
“He was weak and not eating since yesterday, so we had to hospitalise him. Though his parameters seemed alright, we thought it is safer to have him admitted where he would be under supervision of senior doctors,” Jeev Milkha Singh, who flew down from Dubai, told PTI.
“He is under good care of doctors there. He is a strong man, always positive and will recover soon.”
Fortunately, no other members of the Flying Sikh' s family, including wife Nirmal Kaur, a former captain of the Indian volleyball team, were infected.
