The Indian basketball player was picked by Stockton Kings, a Sacramento Kings affiliate, during the NBA G-League draft. Princepal Singh played for Ignite last season.
Indian basketball player Princepal Singh will compete in the NBA G-League for another season after he was drafted by Stockton Kings on Saturday.
The Stockton Kings are the G-League affiliates of the NBA side
Sacramento Kings, a team that Princepal Singh played for during the NBA Summer League, an off-season competition, in August.
Sacramento Kings is owned by Indian American businessman Vivek Ranadive.
Princepal Singh became the first Indian basketball player to be a part of a championship-winning roster in the NBA at any level when the Sacramento Kings clinched the Summer League title.
Princepal Singh had initially spent the last season with Ignite, a developmental basketball team affiliated with the NBA G League.
The initial plan was to have Ignite play 10-12 exhibition matches against other G-League sides and some of the international and academy outfits. But with the league being played inside a bio-bubble, Ignite was included in the regular G-League season.
Princepal Singh played in just four of the G-League matches last season, managing a total court time of 25 minutes in which he scored nine points and affected four defensive rebounds.
The 20-year-old Princepal spent the following weeks training in the USA before joining Sacramento Kings for the Summer League.
Princepal Singh is the third Indian to play in the G-League and follows the legacy of Satnam Singh and Amjyot Singh Gill. While Satnam Singh played for the Texas Legends, a Dallas Mavericks affiliate, Amjyot Singh Gill was picked by the OCK Blue, which is an affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Palpreet Singh was drafted by the Long Island Nets in 2016 but didn’t play any games.
