How to watch women's artistic gymnastics all-around final: Commonwealth Games 2022 preview and schedule
England and Australia, who took a 1-2 in the team competition, look set to continue their rivalry in the individual all-around competition on Sunday (31 July) with England's Alice Kinsella and Ondine Achampong just ahead of Georgia Godwin in the rankings after qualifying on Friday (29 July). Game on!
The best women’s individual all-around artistic gymnast in the Commonwealth will be crowned on Sunday (31 July).
The 18 gymnasts who scored the highest totals from all four pieces of apparatus in the qualification event on Saturday will compete in Sunday's final, with the men's edition taking place in the morning. Only two gymnasts per nation can compete in the finals.
The scores will start from scratch as there’s no carry-over score from the qualification round. However, the gymnasts are placed in groups in order of rank so the top six scorers from Saturday are all in the same group, so compete on the same apparatus each time and can see how their competitors are doing before they take their turn. Nerve-wracking doesn't begin to cover it.
There are two groups of nine gymnasts competing, and they must perform on all four pieces of apparatus – vault, uneven bars, the (sometimes) dreaded balance beam and floor – with the total of the scores revealing the medallists.
Who to watch
Local lass Alice Kinsella lead the way in qualification, with compatriot and first-time multi-sport competitor, Ondine Achampong following close behind. With home crowd support, Kinsella, a bronze medallist in the all-around last time out, will be hard to beat.
Australia's Georgia Godwin will also be one to watch, especially as she won silver in the individual all-around last time out at her home Games in Australia. She is still looking for her first Commonwealth gold, with her team beaten to the top spot by England in the team event on Saturday (30 July).
