How to watch Noah Lyles, Erriyon Knighton and Andre de Grasse at the 2023 Diamond League meeting in Zurich
Noah Lyles will be in action in the men’s 200 at the first Diamond League meeting since the World Championships was concluded. He will face silver medallist Erriyon Knighton and Andre de Grasse in Zurich.
American sensation Noah Lyles will line up at his first track meeting at the Zurich Diamond League meeting on Thursday 31 August since he was crowned the undisputed sprint king at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Lyles bowed out of the global showpiece with the sprint treble - 100m, 200m and 4x100m titles - becoming the first male athlete to do so since Usain Bolt in 2015.
The half-lap specialist raced to a third consecutive gold medal over the 200m distance outsprinting compatriot Erriyon Knighton and Motswana star Letsile Tebogo. Lyles stormed to victory in a time of 19.52 seconds to clinch the 100-200m double. Knighton followed in second in 19.75s with Tebogo bagging bronze in 19.81s.
Tebogo also shared the podium with Lyles in the 100m final finishing second behind the American to become the first African to win a medal in the event.
The trio will face each other in what is expected to be an explosive rematch in Zurich with Olympic champion Andre de Grasse and Zharnel Hughes also joining the fray. De Grasse will be looking for some redemption after he finished sixth in the final in Budapest.
Lyles, whose personal best of 19.31s is the fourth fastest of all time, suggested he might take a stab at Bolt’s world record of 19.19s he set at the Berlin World Championships in 2009.
“Zurich is a very special spot for me. It's a place that's always nice to go back to, the crowd is always engaging. You know, we've got a week's break, I might break the [world] record!” Lyles told Olympics.com.
“You know Aries Merritt, he went to the [London 2012] Olympics and ran his time, he was searching for the [110m hurdles] world record. He went about a week later (in reality it was a month) and broke the world record. So, in other words, we need to be watching. You gotta always be watching.”
