The road cycling season begins in earnest in March with the Tour de France the undoubted highlight starting on 1 July.

Jonas Vingegaard will defend his yellow jersey with two-time winner Tadej Pogacar bidding to regain the most coveted prize in the sport. This year's race starts in Spain with the opening stage in Bilbao.

Vingegaard's Jumbo-Visma teammate Wout van Aert will aim to retain his green points jersey with Olympic mountain bike champion Tom Pidcock hoping to add to his stage win at Alpe d'Huez from last year.

Last year's Vuelta a España champion Remco Evenepoel will not be taking on Le Tour, instead setting his sights on the Giro d'Italia as well as defending his road race world title in Glasgow.

No top riders have as yet confirmed whether they will be taking part in the Vuelta, the year's final Grand Tour, which takes place from 26 August to 17 September.
