The 15-year-old set a new national under-18 200m record last week at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Brisbane at 20.87 seconds. The record was previously held by a trio of Aussies: Darren Clark, 1982; Paul Greene, 1989; and Zane Branco, 2017. Gout is younger than all three were when they ran 20.90 for the previous record.

"It means a lot because I’ve been training so much for this,” Gout said according to news.com.au. “I was really nervous. The gun went, and I was good and I just kept pushing. It’s like you can’t feel any ground contact, it feels like you are floating.

“This season has been mind-blowing for me," he continued. "Last year I came fourth and sixth at nationals, and then I came out at All Schools and won. I was really motivated because I took last year personally, it always feels better when you are winning.”

He'll also likely be motivated by how close he came to beating a 15-year-old Usain Bolt's best time. At that age, Bolt, who later became an eight-time Olympic gold medallist and widely considered the greatest sprinter of all time in the sport, ran a wind aided 20.58 time.
