Golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will tee off at the Kasumigaseki Country Club course for India when the women’s golf competition at the Tokyo Olympics gets underway on Wednesday, August 4.
It will be a second Olympics appearance for three-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner and world No. 200 Aditi Ashok, after Rio 2016.
Aditi Ashok had led the women’s golf event after the second round in Rio but slipped to 41st by the end of the tournament.
It was nevertheless an encouraging outing and since then, Aditi Ashok has gone on to carve a new path for Indian golf with three LET wins and regular appearances on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).
The other golfer, Diksha Dagar entered Tokyo 2020 at the eleventh hour after South Africa’s Paula Reto withdrew due to a positive COVID-19 test and first reserve Sarah Schober of Austria declined an invitation to fill in.
The 20-year-old Diksha Dagar, who turned pro in 2019, is ranked world No. 402 and will be making her Olympics debut.
Top-ranked Nelly Korda, her elder sister Jessica Korda and Major winners Danielle Kang and Lexi Thompson will represent the USA and will be expected to chase gold.
Defending Olympic champion Inbee Park of South Korea and Rio 2016 silver-medallist Lydia Ko of New Zealand are also part of the 60-strong field.
