Moguls champion Perrine Laffont takes break for “a few months” with Milano Cortina 2026 in her sights
The PyeongChang 2018 moguls champion announced on 15 November that she will step back from competing to focus on the physical and mental preparation for her future goals, notably the 2025 Worlds and the 2026 Olympics.
Perrine Laffont, the PyeongChang 2018 moguls champion and five-time world gold medallist, will be missing from the 2023/24 freeski season.
The 25-year-old Frenchwoman, holder of nine FIS Crystal Globes, has been on the World Cup circuit since 2014. For this season, however, she has decided to take a break from competition.
“After a very big 22/23 season, and just before the next World Championships (2025) and the next Olympic Games (2026), Perrine Laffont decided to take a break from competition for a few months, in order to refine her preparation through important physical and mental work,” according to the press release published on 15 November.
Fourth at Beijing 2022, Laffont was unable to win a second consecutive title to follow on her gold medal at PyeongChang 2018, where she was 19 years old.
She bounced back last season by winning two Crystal Globes, in moguls and dual moguls, as well as celebrating four World Cup victories and two titles at the World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia.
In the recently released documentary 'Blast' on Prime Video, Laffont opened up about the depression she experienced as a high-level athlete.
The mogul ski season begins in Ruka, Finland on 2 December. Nine stages are planned for the 2023/24 season, the last in Chiesa in Valmalenco (Italy), on 16 March.
