The Tabanelli family name was celebrated twice at the Big Air World Cup on Sunday, 1 December as the Italian freestyle skiing siblings both reached the podium in Beijing.

Miro Tabanelli finished second, 0.75 points behind Tormod Frostad of Norway, while his younger sister Flora Tabanelli was third in the women’s event.

Coming in as the top qualifier, Miro Tabanelli tied for the lead after run 1 with the highest-scoring trick of the competition at 92.25, to match New Zealand's Luca Harrington. Although he was not able to bump his third run into the 90s to surpass Frostad’s total of 183.00, the Italian freeskier did earn his career's second World Cup podium. Tabanelli reached his first – also in second place – a year ago in Copper Mountain, USA.

For Frostad, the result in Beijing marked his first World Cup victory. The Norwegian finished second and third in earlier competitions this season.

Canada’s Dylan Deschamps wrapped up the top three with 181.00 points on the board to earn back-to-back third places in his World Cup appearances this season.

In the women’s event, France’s Tess Ledeux scored 168.25 points to secure her 16th World Cup victory and the second this season. The Beijing 2022 silver medallist also won the slopestyle World Cup last weekend in Stubai, Austria.

Third in Stubai, Switzerland’s Sarah Hoefflin moved up to second position in Beijing thanks to a strong final run, which bumped her total up to 163.00 points.

Like her brother, two-time Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Games champion Tabanelli was in the lead after the first run but ultimately dropped down to third, with 159.50 points. The 17-year-old has finished on the podium at every Big Air competition she took part in for nearly a year.
