Two-time figure skating world champion Evgenia Medvedeva will miss the fifth and final stage of the Cup of Russia event in Moscow.
The announcement was made by the Russian Figure Skating Federation to TASS.
The 21-year-old Russian, who won two silver medals at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, missed the Moscow leg of the Grand Prix Series in November due to an ongoing back issue. It was revealed during Rostelecom Cup that she had contracted coronavirus, as well.
"Medvedeva will not perform at the fifth stage of the Russian Cup," TASS reported, citing a source at the Russian Figure Skating Federation.
It was the final chance for Medvedveda to compete before Russian nationals, which take place 22-27 December in Moscow.
Medvedeva joins a list of withdrawals, including European champion Dmitry Aliev, junior world champion pair team Apollinaria Panfilova and Dmitry Rylov, and Russian Championship bronze medallist ice dancers Tiffany Zagorski and Jonathan Gurreiro, as well as European Championships silver medallists Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin.
