Russian figure skating star Evgenia Medvedeva is being treated for coronavirus.

The two-time world champion and Olympic silver medallist was tested three times after showing symptoms with only the first returning a positive result, according to news site Gazeta which credited original reporting from Mash.ru.

Medvedeva, who turned 21 on Thursday, insisted on being tested again after continuing to suffer symptoms and was found to be positive once more.

She is now isolating in Moscow and receiving treatment.

Fans had hoped to see Medvedeva at this weekend's Grand Prix of Russia in Moscow, but the skater has not been seen since September's Russian test skates due to long-running back problems.

Immediately after that exhibition in Moscow, Medvedeva announced she was leaving Brian Orser to reunite with former coach Eteri Tutberidze in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The news of her positive test comes 24 hours after another Tutberidze skater, Anna Shcherbakova, was forced to pull out of the Rostelecom Cup through illness with reports claiming she was suffering from pneumonia.
