Switzerland's Team Tirinzoni claimed their first women's European Curling Championship title after beating Italy 6-5 in Aberdeen, on Saturday 25 November.
The reigning world champions, undefeated all week, edged past **Stefania Constantini'**s side with fourth Alina Paetz delivering the winning shot with her last stone in the 10th end of the 2023 final.
An uncharacteristic error by the Swiss fourth with her first attempt turned out to be Switzerland's saving grace with the outcome giving the team two options to take the win.
The Italians, who had been in the driving seat throughout the end, used their final timeout to try and navigate a way to still enact a steal but Paetz, on the second time of trying, didn't miss her opportunity to strike.
"Five minutes ago, I thought they were going to steal on us and then, thank God, we had two options but still a very tough shot," Silvana Tirinizoni told the World Curling broadcast afterwards.
"I'm still trying to find my feelings, I'm all over the place right now,"
Despite multiple successes on the world stage, the European title has always been one that has eluded the Swiss skip.
Last year, the Switzerland team came the closest they had ever been to the crown until they were denied by Denmark with the last stone of the match.
Memories of that haunting loss will now be replaced with this triumph, which sees the Swiss team hold the world and European titles simultaneously.
The curling action in Aberdeen, streaming live on the Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the official Olympics app for mobile devices, will continue with the men's final featuring hosts Scotland and Sweden at 14:00 UTC/GMT.
