European Championships 2022 in Munich: Day-by-day highlights guide, daily schedule, and how to watch the multi-sport event

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Summer Olympics, Munich, Germany, hosts the second edition of the multi-sport European Championships.

4,700 athletes from across the continent will gather in the Bavarian capital for the 2022 edition, competing in nine Olympic sports disciplines from 11 - 21 August.

177 gold medals will be on offer: Olympics.com has picked out the athletes to watch on a daily basis as well as the schedule of medal events.

Day 1 – Thursday 11 August 2022: Medal events

The opening competition day in Munich will see the artistic gymnastics' women's all around title assigned.

2021 European bronze medallist Jessica Gadirova from Great Britain and 2019 European Games silver medallist Lorette Charpy will be among the athletes to watch for the podium.

Day 2 – Friday 12 August 2022 - Medal events

Eight medals will be up for grabs on day two.

The highlight of the day is the women's BMX freestyle contest that sees two of the Tokyo 2020 medallists in action: Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington and defending European champion Nikita Ducarroz of Switzerland.

With 25 gold medals on the line today, the last day of the first week of competition promises lots of drama.

The road cycling's race will crown the new men's European champion while it's apparatus final day for the elite women in artistic gymnastics.

11 medals are up for the taking on day eight: Olympic and world long jump champion Malaika Mihambo will bid for her second straight European title in front of the home crowd, while in the men's 1,500m it will be another showdown between recently crowned world champion Jake Wightman and Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who won silver in Oregon.

The last day of the European Championships will feature six sports for a total of 35 gold medals.

Olympic and World champions Anders Mol and Christian Sorum are expected to feature in the men's beach volleyball final as they seek their fifth continental title.

Olympic floor gold medallist Artem Dolgopyat of Israel will be one of the stars performing at the Olympiahalle in the artistic gymnastics' apparatus finals, while the table tennis singles gold medals will also be awarded.
