The knockout stages of UEFA Euro 2024 (14 June – 14 July) are upon us in Germany, as the next stage of the European football tournament begins on Saturday 29 June and will wrap up on Tuesday 2 July.

An enthralling group stage saw 24 teams become 16; the top two teams from each of the six groups progressed to the round of 16, while the four best third-place teams also earnt their place in the next round.

Switzerland, aiming for historic back-to-back Euro quarter-final appearances, open the round of 16 against defending champions Italy at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. On Saturday night, hosts Germany will continue their home tournament in Dortmund against fellow unbeaten side Denmark.

Group C winners England are back in Gelsenkirchen to face Slovakia, who emerged from a Group E where all four teams finished level on four points. Spain, the only team to earn maximum points and not concede a goal in the group stage, will take on surprise package and tournament debutants Georgia in Cologne.

The stand-out tie is between 2022 World Cup finalists France and neighbours Belgium, who will meet in Düsseldorf after finishing as runners-up in competitive groups*.* Portugal, who won Group F despite a shock final-day defeat to Georgia, will play knockout stage debutants Slovenia in Frankfurt.

Munich will host the penultimate match of the round between Romania, who impressed en route to winning their group, and Netherlands, who finished third in the competitive Group D. That group was won by Austria, who conclude the round of 16 with an enticing tie against Group F runners-up Türkiye in Leipzig.
